Deer and other antlered animals, like elk shed their antlers every year due to hormonal changes.   Shed antler hunting is a very popular sport where spouses, families and friends can spend time together in the woodlots and fields in search of trophy deer shed antlers.  It is common to pick up one side of a deer’s shed antlers and never find the other.  A “matched set” of shed antlers from a deer is a coveted trophy among shed antler hunters.  Many people use trail cameras to track where the deer travel in order to find the antlers after they have dropped.  It is key to get out and hunt them around the time that deer in your area drop their antlers.  This will normally take place within 2 weeks of the same time of year annually.  The sooner you pick these up, the less opportunity there is for rodents to chew on them.
